Phnom Penh, 19 August 2025 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a statement expressing deep concern over remarks by Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, regarding preparations for domestic legal actions against Cambodian leaders.

The Ministry stressed that such actions, if pursued, would violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia, as well as the principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect enshrined in the United Nations Charter. It further warned that the move could seriously damage Cambodia–Thailand relations and undermine ongoing efforts to secure peace along the border.

The statement emphasized that any legal measures by Thailand would erode trust and confidence, both of which are essential for implementing the ceasefire agreement reached by Cambodia and Thailand on July 28, 2025. The ceasefire, along with steps toward de-escalation, was jointly reaffirmed during the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on August 7, 2025 in Malaysia.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to peace, the Royal Government of Cambodia called on the Royal Thai Government to work together in good faith to restore relations to normalcy and to maintain regional stability in the immediate future.
