Cambodia Denies Thai Media Claims of Drone Intrusion, Urges De-escalation and Mutual Respect
Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has firmly rejected allegations circulated by certain Thai media outlets claiming that Cambodia had deployed drones into Thai territory. The Ministry condemned these reports as false, misleading, and intentionally provocative, warning that such disinformation only serves to escalate unnecessary tensions.
Speaking at a press briefing on the “Outcome of the Ceasefire Implementation between Cambodia and Thailand”, held on the morning of Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Office of the Council of Ministers, Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, dismissed the claims as baseless and fabricated. She criticized the use of falsified images and videos by some media entities, which were misrepresented to suggest Cambodian drone incursions into Thai airspace.
“Recently, Thailand has published news reports using fake photos and videos, accompanied by misleading commentary and distorted interpretations, falsely portraying the drone as Cambodian and claiming it flew into Thai territory. All these actions not only failed to help maintain the improved situation but also caused unnecessary tensions. Cambodia repeatedly urges Thai side to immediately stop these actions,” H.E. Maly Socheata stated.
In response to these claims, the spokesperson also called on the Thai side to refrain from flying its drones into Cambodian airspace, warning that any future violations will be met with appropriate countermeasures.
“At the same time,” she added, “Cambodia also calls on the Thai side to refrain from launching drones into Cambodian airspace and affirms that we will take appropriate measures in response to such violations.”
The Ministry reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to peace, mutual respect, and regional cooperation, while calling on all stakeholders to refrain from provocative actions and uphold the spirit of dialogue.
